In 2006 I had the pleasure of working with some of the top fashion houses in Italy. Living in Milan for 8 years, there were so many moments where you could take a snapshot and capture the smells and tastes of the time. One particular moment came to mind when we sat down to introduce a scent we can call our own.
I traveled to Florence for a couple of weeks for work, staying next to the Ponte Vecchio. It was a Friday evening, golden hour. A friend burst through the door and in full 9's he throws my weekend bag on the bed. "Grab your top gear, we're late." Apparently, we were going into the hills outside Florence for an event. The scent alone of the stones, buildings, and water in the summer around the area contained musky, earthy notes. Almost nostalgic, a feeling of tradition, artistry, and a sense of living in a timeless world.
Speeding through the hilltops, getting dressed in a Carrera 911 Turbo S was no small feat. With the top down, the smell of Italian Cypress and Sitka Spruce filled with spices and a matted citrus freshness filled the air. This was a new scent for me, and it felt new, almost like limoncello.
Made from a collective of organic essential oils, Bergamot Musk was inspired by a newfound freshness and a grounded, almost traditional, feel. We began experimenting with cedars, vetiver, and bergamot alongside spices like cinnamon with cloves. Finally, creating a scent that was powerful, but subtle at the same time. Bergamot Musk became our signature scent in one of our first products, the Purifying Face Cleanser, but now translated in our reformulated Hyper-Conditioning Hair Oil, and Anti-Fatigue Mud Mask.
