To Scrub Or Not To Scrub Your Face

To Scrub Or Not To Scrub Your Face

3 minute read

Quick Tip: Don’t use a scrub during the 48 hours after excess sun exposure as it could get irritated even more.

Your skin naturally sheds dead cells every 30 days to make room for newer, fresher cells. But, our lifestyles are not so clean-cut and dry. A night without sleep, higher-than-usual stress, or having drinks on the town can form rough, flaky skin. Without remedy, the skin can be a hotbed for fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. It develops naturally over time with consistent damage from our day-to-day (night-to-night) lifestyles. These are the main assailants that result in us looking 5 to 15 years older than we actually are.

So, how are you able to get that excess skin off? Two ways: through chemical or physical exfoliants.

Chemical Scrubs

This refers to beta-hydroxy-acids (BHAs), such as salicylic acid, and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), such as lactic and glycolic acids, which give your skin mild exfoliation. Chemical exfoliators are often more gentle for sensitive skin. AHAs work by melting the glue that attaches the dead skin cells to the outer layer of the skin, while BHAs are oil-soluble ingredients that go deeper into the skin and pores for a thorough cleanse.

Physical Scrubs

Physical ingredients can be great for rougher skin types. It usually involves using pellets from pumice, or hardened oils like jojoba oil beads, etc. You should check the ingredients list of your physical exfoliants to ensure that they are not grains of shells or anything abrasive. You’ll do more damage than good; Nutshells (for example) can form micro-tears on the skin, which are little tears in the skin caused by sharp or jagged objects.

The best of both worlds

GOA’s Recovery Face Scrub is a dual-exfoliating tool that combines the strength of a physical scrub and the precision of a chemical scrub without any abrasiveness. The result is like not only cutting the weeds from a lawn but also pulling out the roots. Packed with Jojoba beads (physical exfoliant), glycolic acid (chemical exfoliant), and GOA’s amino acid blend (protects the skin), the Recovery Face Scrub destroys the development of fine lines, smooths out rough skin, and clears pores from dirt and pollution. The result?:

“Amazing Product”

“If you have trouble as I do with concealing large pores, this is the product for you. I love how my face feels refreshed and smooth after using this scrub.”
